Wallet Code decision tree

  1. Identify the format.Use these instructions only if the product delivered is a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code.
  2. Ask for the Steam Wallet currency.Steam limits retail code redemption to the currency of the user’s Steam Wallet. Store language, residence and a display-currency estimate are not substitutes for that check.
  3. Match the listed face currency.Choose a Giftlano market/currency option that matches the wallet. The face value belongs to the product; changing display currency only changes the estimate.
  4. Stop if the format or currency is unclear.Do not rely on Steam’s native digital-gift conversion rule to rescue a mismatched retail Wallet Code.

Wallet currency, Store Country and crypto payment remain separate

Selecting another product currency on a retailer site does not alter the recipient’s Steam Store Country. Paying the retailer with Bitcoin, Monero or another crypto asset also does not change the Steam account or make a mismatched Wallet Code redeemable.

Steam’s Store Country process belongs to Steam. Its support page says the account country should reflect where the user resides and that a change is completed with a payment method from that country. A Wallet Code cannot be used to change the account country. Check the legitimate account state before purchase instead of treating currency selection or crypto payment as a bypass.

Redeem only after the currency check

For a delivered Wallet Code, sign in to the account that should keep the funds and use Steam’s Wallet Code redemption page. The dedicated procedure explains each step and where the resulting balance goes.

What the wallet balance can do

Pay toward a Steam purchase

Wallet funds can be used for later Steam purchases. If the balance is too small, Steam asks for another payment method for the remainder.

Stay on the redeemed account

Steam says wallet funds cannot be moved or gifted to another Steam account. Redeem on the account that should keep and use the value.

Remain different from a native gift

Steam says eligible account-to-account digital gift cards convert to the recipient’s currency when sender and recipient are in different countries. That is Steam’s own gifting flow, not the retail Wallet Code rule.

Steam Wallet Code questions

Can I buy a code in my own currency for a friend abroad?

Only if that currency matches the friend’s Steam Wallet currency. Otherwise, use a matching code or assess Steam’s separate native digital-gift flow.

Can the recipient move redeemed funds to another account?

No. Steam says wallet funds cannot be transferred or gifted after they are on the account.

Does a Giftlano display-currency estimate change the code?

No. The selected face currency remains the product currency; the display value is only a comparison estimate.
